Improve your skills with the tips below:
1. Read more
Don’t expect to be a greater writer unless you are familiar with great writing. Seek out writers that you admire and make reading their work part of your daily schedule. Their skills of using words will seep into your sub-conscious and start showing up in your own writing. It is said that if you don’t have time to read then you don’t have the time or the tools to write.
2. Know your audience
It is of great important to learn as much as you can about the people who are reading your work. Find out their average age, gender, location, lifestyle, aspirations and their problems. You can do this by putting a poll on your website, social media platforms or by simply following up with comments and retweets. The more you know about your audience, the better you will be able to help them.
3. Do your research
The more informed you are on your subject and audience, the more informative and valuable your writing can be. Research deep and thoroughly and you will know just what to write for every section. 4. Make it easy to read Some great vocabularies give writings some swag, but I say when something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing. Choose clarity over complexity, the best writing is the one that is almost like it’s not there at all. You read a sentence and its meaning just slips directly and comfortably into your brain.
5. Don’t chase perfection
Writing is impossible to master. So your writing should be well-crafted not perfect. You might have got a healthy confidence in your writing. But you have also probably got some unrealistic expectations. If you think everything you write needs to be perfect, then you will struggle to ever get words on paper. After all we are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.
6. Take risks
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. It is probably a mistake to start your writing with a dialogue between two fictional characters. But also that can be the best way of starting the dialogue.
7. Get a second pair of eyes
Even if you are an incredible writer, it is always advantageous to have a second pair of eye to review your content. This is normally pretty easy if you work for another company or work with a large group of writers.
